A TESTIMONIAL FROM MORVEN MACLEAN, CONSTRUCTION CO-ORDINATOR, AT PLYMOUTH CITY COUNCIL
Project Overview
Every year, Building Plymouth delivers Mission Mammoth STEAMfest, a week-long event with The Box and Arts University Plymouth, inspiring Year 5 students across the city to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Maths) skills.
With the support of around 80 volunteers from the construction industry, 500 students participate in engaging activities designed to build real-world skills.
In 2025, students were challenged by Mildred the Mammoth to design a new iconic landmark for Plymouth that would attract visitors and showcase the city’s unique identity. Working in teams, students used their STEAM knowledge to create imaginative and thoughtful landmark proposals, guided by industry volunteers.
How did Delt support?
“This is the fourth year that we have delivered our Mission Mammoth STEAMfest event, and every year we are very last minute with the artwork and quite often add in some extras and change plans! Every year this never phases the team at Delt who are always so accommodating – nothing is ever too much trouble, and the customer service is of the highest standard.
This year we redesigned our character, Mildred the Mammoth, which meant we needed some extra resources. A colleague visited the Delt Print warehouse and sat with Aleks to go through what we needed and it was delivered absolutely perfectly!”
Our print services play a key role in helping local organisations deliver impactful learning experiences for young people. Mission Mammoth STEAMfest is just one example of how creative materials can bring education to life — and support a stronger, more connected community.
