Since 2021, Delt have provided Estates Management to schools across Devon and Cornwall that form the Transforming Futures Trust (TFT). As well as providing strategic advice, Delt offers a flexible service to meet the need for proactive and reactive maintenance care. From building maintenance through to catering, Delt provide a range of estates and facilities support services tailored to the bespoke needs of the Trust and its schools.
Courtlands School caters for primary aged children who have Moderate Learning Difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH) and other complex needs.
Following successful applications for the Department Education Condition Improvement Funding, with assistance from Futures for Somerset, Delt oversaw the delivery of the improvement projects and sign off on behalf of the Trust.
The improvement projects focused on the replacement of the fire alarm system and emergency lighting which were deemed non-compliant. Unfortunately, additional necessary building works were discovered, and a significant part of the £650,000 CIF funding was spent on immediate remediation.
To minimise any further disruption to the school environment, contractors appointed by Delt’s delivery partner, Futures for Somerset, worked continuously during the school summer holidays to ensure the work was completed and ready for the students return in the Autumn.
Once the additional works were complete, installation teams were able to access the school to install a new fire alarm and CCTV system as per the CIF funding bid. Following the completion of the works, the most important benefit is that the students, within Courtlands care, now have a much safer learning environment.
However, the work is not yet complete. Delt’s next task will be to replace the old 1970s windows with thermal efficient and safe double glazing across all buildings on site. This will provide the school with a modern, easy to maintain and lower running cost glazing solution that improves quality of learning environments.
